Can I enable/disable the audible tone when a new Text is received?

Description

This article explains how to manage audible tone notifications when text is received in the user settings tab.

Resolution

To enable/disable the setting for audible tone when a new SMS/Text is received, navigate to Configuration --> User Settings --> General Settings, toggle the option for "Plays a notification tone when a new SMS/Text message is received" to either Yes or No, then click Save at the bottom.

1. There are two parts to this setting, and the company half comes first. In Company Settings, open the Notification Settings panel and scroll down to the row for a notification tone on new text messages. An administrator ticks that box once for the company.

2. Until that box is ticked, the row below is simply not rendered on your own settings tab — which is why the tab can look wrong.

3. Your own half lives under Configuration, in User Settings. The page opens on Change Password; seven tabs run along the top, and the one you want is the fourth, General Settings.

4. The same row is third in the list on that tab. The button’s text is the setting: Yes means the tone plays, No means silent.

5. Click it once to flip it, then click Save at the bottom of the tab to store it.

6. Turning it back on is the same click: set it to Yes, Save, and the tone is back. The company switch makes the row exist; your own Yes or No decides whether you hear it.
