Please see the below steps for the optimal Google Chrome settings for running Ricochet:

1. Toggle “Use hardware acceleration when available” to the off position

  • Go to settings in Chrome by clicking on the three vertical dots in the upper right corner and select "Settings"
  • Type the word “hardware” in the search box at the top of the Settings section
  • Ensure that “Use hardware acceleration when available” is toggled to the off position (toggle is gray)

2. Ensure Microphone, Notifications and Pop-Ups and Redirects are set to Allow

  • Click the small lock icon next to the URL (while Ricochet is loaded)
  • Update all above settings to "Allow" if not set already
  • If any of these settings are not listed, click the "Site Settings" option and update these options
  • NOTE:  If you make any changes to these settings, Chrome will prompt you to reload your browser for the changes to take effect.

3. Ensure 3rd Party Extensions are NOT installed on Chrome

Ensure there are no 3rd party extensions running/installed in your Google Chrome application outside of the default ones that come pre-loaded with the Google Chrome application (Slides, Docs, Sheets).

Continuing to use Ricochet with 3rd party extensions installed (running or disabled) may cause undesired effects when utilizing the Ricochet platform and must be uninstalled from Chrome.

To uninstall extensions from Chrome, click the 3 vertical dots at the top right of Chrome, then More Tools, then Extensions and proceed to fully uninstall/remove any 3rd party extensions.

If you need to use extensions for business purposes and cannot be uninstalled, you will need to use Ricochet in Chrome's Incognito Window mode (while using the regular version of Chrome for all other applications/website usage).

To launch Incognito Window in Chrome, click the 3 vertical dots at the top right corner of Chrome and select "New Incognito Window" and proceed to sign into Ricochet from there.  Each time you sign into Ricochet via an Incognito window, you will need to allow the browser to access your microphone before making/receiving any calls.

4. Keeping Google Chrome up-to-date

It's important to keep your Google Chrome application up-to-date with their latest revisions, as our platform is tested against the most recent versions.

  • Click the 3 vertical dots at the top right of Chrome
  • Click on "Help"
  • Click on "About Google Chrome" - this will launch Chrome's "About" page which should automatically check for the latest version of Chrome and download/install if needed.  You'll be prompted to reload the browser once the update is completed, so be sure to only do this when you are not on an active call or otherwise need to retain information on any open tabs in Chrome.

5. Clearing Google Cache regularly

Google Chrome will retain cache to make certain pages load quicker, however over time older cache files may not have the most up to date information about one or more of Ricochet's pages, causing some potential slow-downs and other undesired issues.  You'll want to regularly clear your Chrome Google Cache to ensure the system is running optimally.

  • Click the 3 vertical dots at the top right of Chrome
  • Click on More Tools
  • Click on "Clear Browsing Data"
  • Click the "Advanced" tab
  • Check the box only for "Cached images and files" - you can uncheck all other boxes
  • Change the "Time Range" to "All Time"
  • Click "Clear Data" - then close and re-open Chrome once the clearing is completed.
